There, the group toured the children’s facility, meeting patients and their families.</div><div><!--break--><br />&nbsp;</div><div>The visit continues an ongoing trend of ROH stars finding ways to give back to communities that welcome them for ROH events. “It is really important as representatives of a company that is given so much by the fans that buy tickets to our events in their hometowns that we find a way to give back,” Riccaboni told “With Caprice and I being fathers, Kelly’s connection to kids as a teacher, and so many ROH stars becoming wrestlers because of their childhood dreams, these visits give us so much; we get as much or more from these visits then the children or their families,” he continued.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>This was Ring of Honor’s first visit to the Jeff Gordon facility. There, the stars colored and played video games with patients before breaking out into impromptu song and dance with Coleman on drums, Martinez on a plastic guitar, and Klein and Riccaboni singing in the activity room. Whether it was true love or a toxic relationship, these pairs all made or are making an impact.</div><div><!--break--></div><div><img alt="" src="" /><br />&nbsp;</div><div>5. PRINCE NANA &amp; PRINCESS MIA YIM</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The Ashanti prince from Ghana, West Africa brought Yim to ROH in 2011 and made her his princess in The Embassy. Nana spoiled Yim with lavish gifts, but his preoccupation with her proved to be his downfall. While Nana focused all of his attention on Yim, Barrister R.D. Evans pulled a coup and exiled Nana from his own creation. To further add to Nana’s humiliation, Yim turned down his marriage proposal.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><img alt="" src="" /></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>4. BEST FRIENDS</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Unlike the other couples on this list, the love between tag team partners Beretta and Chuckie T. is strictly platonic, but that doesn’t mean their bond is any less meaningful. In fact, theirs is a bromance for the ages. Case in point: They cannot get through a tag match without hugging each other. Regardless of what they may have going on in their dating lives, Beretta and Chuckie T. obviously live by the philosophy of pals before gals.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><img alt="" src="" /></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>3. JIMMY JACOBS &amp; LACEY</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The relationship status of Jacobs and Lacey was the very definition of “it’s complicated.” After Lacey put Jacobs and BJ Whitmer together as Lacey’s Angels in 2005, Jacobs became obsessed with her. Despite Jacobs’ willingness to do anything to win Lacey’s heart, his love for her was unrequited for quite some time. Eventually, Lacey had a change of heart, but so did Jacobs. They continued to work together for a while, but, not surprisingly, things didn’t end well.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><img alt="" src="" /></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>2. MICHAEL BENNETT &amp; MARIA KANELLIS</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Bennett and Kanellis’ first appearance as a couple in pro wrestling took place in ROH. Kanellis started accompanying her boyfriend and future husband Bennett to the ring in 2011, and she was not shy about getting involved in his matches. The couple went on to form The Kingdom with Adam Cole and Matt Hardy, with Matt Taven eventually joining the group. Kanellis led Bennett and Taven to the ROH World Tag Team and IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team titles.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><img alt="" src="" /></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>1. CODY &amp; BRANDI RHODES</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Cody and Brandi are the unquestioned “it couple” in ROH. They’re both young, attractive and stars in their own right. With Brandi by his side, Cody won the ROH World Championship and signed the most lucrative contract in ROH history. Brandi, meanwhile, has made an impressive transition from wrestling ring announcer to Women of Honor competitor. In addition, Brandi is one of the stars of the E! Reality series “WAGS Atlanta.”</div> Thu, 15 Feb 2018 18:58:32 +0000 Chris Hall 581491 at ROH Recap: Is The ROH World Title Residing South Of Heaven? <div class="field field-news-photo"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/media/photos/ep334-image">ep334-image</a> </div> </div> </div> <div>ROH World Champion Dalton Castle faces Punishment Martinez in first title defense, the WOH Title Tournament begins with Mandy Leon versus Madison Rayne, and Coast 2 Coast looks to maintain momentum against Beer City Bruiser and Brian Milonas!</div><div><!--break--></div><div><br />“Ring of Honor Wrestling” #334</div><div>Airdate: Weekend of Feb. 10, 2018</div><div>Location: Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>QUICK RESULTS</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>-- The match pitting Coast 2 Coast (LSG and Shaheem Ali) &nbsp;versus Beer City Bruiser and Brian Mionas ended in a no-contest due to Silas Young and Kenny King getting physically involved</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>-- Kenny King and Coast 2 Coast defeated Silas Young, Beer City Bruiser and Brian Milonas</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>-- Mandy Leon defeated Madison Rayne in a Women of Honor Title Tournament first-round match</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>-- ROH World Champion Dalton Castle defeated Punishment Martinez in a title match</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>RECAP</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Dalton Castle is ready for first title defense</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Castle said he knew when he won the ROH World Title that he was going to have a target on his back, so he wasn’t surprised when Punishment Martinez attacked him. This was a classic matchup of size -- Bruiser and Milonas outweigh LSG and Ali by a combined 300 pounds -- versus speed.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The match only lasted a few minutes before Young got physically involved behind the referee’s back. That brought out Kenny King, the man Young defeated for the ROH World Television Title at Final Battle in December, who immediately jumped on Young. All six men started brawling, so the referee called for the bell and declared the match a no-contest.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>During the commercial break, the match was changed to a six-man tag.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Beer City Bruiser, Brian Milonas and Silas Young vs. Coast 2 Coast (LSG and Shaheem Ali) and Kenny King</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The match started hot and the back-and-forth action continued until LSG swung the momentum in his team’s favor by hitting a spectacular corkscrew 450 off the top rope onto Bruiser and Milonas. An agitated Cody asked where they’ve been. The Bucks said their flight was late and they just got there. Cody said he got his ass kicked and the fans were chanting for the Bucks to make the save. Cody said everyone wants Bullet Club to break up, and they can’t let that happen. He said he needs better from everyone, especially the two of them. After Cody stormed out, an oblivious Marty Scurll walked in carrying a sign a fan made for him. Matt Jackson told him now wasn’t the time.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The Briscoes: It’s all about making statements</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>In a backstage video shot before the show, the Briscoes had a message for ROH World Tag Team Champions The Motor City Machine Guns. Jay Briscoe said they don’t care about their opponents’ well-being or whether the fans cheer for them; they care about making statements. Jay said it’s not personal against the Machine Guns; it’s personal against everybody. He said the ROH World Tag Team Titles are their property and they’re coming to take their property back.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>ROH World Title Match: Dalton Castle (w/The Boys) (champion) vs. Punishment Martinez</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>True to his word, Castle came out swinging against his bigger challenger, but Martinez withstood the onslaught and began to dominate. The champion, however, also proved resilient. A Falcon Arrow from Martinez couldn’t put away Castle, and neither could a super spinning heel kick from the top rope after Journey into Darkness. Martinez then put a near lifeless Castle into position for the Psycho Driver, but Castle fought his way out and surprised Martinez with a small package for the win.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>After the match, a furious Martinez destroyed both of Castle’s Boys.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>THEY SAID IT</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>“If I was a big lummox with eyeliner, I’m be looking for any advantage I could get, especially if I had to fight me. What is your first memory of pro wrestling?</strong></span></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The first memory I have of pro wrestling is sitting on my mom’s bed with my brother getting ready for wrestling to come on. I think it was a Saturday, the cartoon “X-Men” was on, which was the lead-in. I remember being so excited for wrestling. I think I was also excited because my older brother was so excited.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>2. Everyone knows you do spot-on impressions of Randy Savage and Ric Flair. Do you do any other wrestling personalities?</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>I think those are my best ones. But I like to think I can do a good impression of Jimmy Hart as well. But I need the megaphone (laughs).</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>3. If you weren't a pro wrestler, what do you think you'd be doing for a living?</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>I might be a carpenter like my dad. Before I had the chance to become a pro wrestler, I accompanied my dad to work many times. Some of the coolest memories I have are from working with him. I remember when I got my first power drill. He was just as proud of me then as he is today.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>4. You started in ROH as a teenager. Now you're one of the elder statesmen in the locker room. What's your approach to that role?</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>I don’t consider myself to be anything more or less than anyone on our roster. We are all on the same playing field to me. We all strive hard every day to make Ring of Honor better than it was the day before.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>5. What's the best piece of advice you've been given in the wrestling business, and who gave it to you?</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Kevin Nash told me, “If you’re not having fun, then what is the point?” I didn’t fully grasp it until a few years later when I realized that I could have fun and work hard at the same time.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>6. What's something you'd like to know more about?</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>I’d like to know more about the feeling you get when you win every Ring of Honor Championship available (laughs).</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>7. What's the most embarrassing moment you've had in the business?</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>(Laughs) It happened during my very first match. My music hit, my family was cheering ready for me to make my entrance. I waited until the perfect cue during the music. And once I walked through the curtain, I slipped on a big puddle of water. My opponent came out before me and he was dripping wet so it made the floor all slippery.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>8. Do you have a favorite video game?</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>I love video games. My favorite game ever would be the “Mass Effect” series, followed by “The Witcher 3.” Growing up, I played every wrestling game that came out. Me, my brother and my friends would have wars!</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>9. How do you feel about being labeled as "The Franchise" of ROH, and is it something you feel pressure to live up to?</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>I actually like the sound of it. When I started watching ECW I was a fan of Shane Douglas. It reminds me of that. I actually don’t feel any added pressure from it. But I always honestly feel pressured to deliver up to the standard that Ring of Honor has set.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>10. You've dedicated yourself to regaining the ROH World Title. The referee called for the bell, ruling the match a no-contest.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The Briscoes, who have made it clear that they’re on a mission to win the ROH World Tag Team Titles for a ninth time, then tossed the Machine Guns into the ring and began pummeling them. They zip-tied Shelley to the ropes, and Mark Briscoe forced him to watch as Jay Briscoe hit a Jay Driller on Sabin onto a chair.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Big tag team debuting next week</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The newly formed duo of Beer City Bruiser and Brian Milonas announced that they will be in action next week. Their buddy, ROH World Television Champion Silas Young, said he will be there and can’t wait to see it.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Video package: Punishment Martinez has an ominous message for Dalton Castle</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Martinez talked about his violent upbringing and his success in ROH before glaring directly into the camera to address Castle, who will defend his ROH World Title against Martinez next week. “Castle, since Final Battle you’ve received nothing but congratulations from your peers,” Martinez said. “Let me be the first to grant you condolences, because your time as world champion is dead.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Shane Taylor vs. Marty Scurll</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Scurll asked for this match so that he could get his hands on Taylor, who was paid by SoCal Uncensored to attack him in the locker room two weeks ago. Despite giving up well over a hundred pounds to Taylor, Scurll went toe to toe with him. After absorbing some heavy blows from Taylor, Scurll shockingly was able to hit a brainbuster on the big man for a near fall.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Realizing he was going to need to reach into his bag of tricks, “The Villain” brought his umbrella into the ring, but Taylor took it from him. After the referee got the umbrella away from Taylor and turned his back to toss it out of the ring, Scurll threw powder into Taylor’s eyes. Scurll covered the blinded Taylor, and the referee turned around to make the three count.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>After the match, Scurll grabbed a microphone and called out Punishment Martinez. Martinez wasted no time coming to the ring. Scurll said that he believes Martinez will win the ROH World Title from Dalton Castle next week, and he wants the first title shot against him. Martinez nodded. As Scurll turned to walk away, Martinez grabbed him and delivered a South of Heaven chokeslam.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Matt Taven (w/Vinny Marseglia and TK O’Ryan) vs. Cody</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Two weeks ago, a war of words between Cody and Taven ended with Taven dropping Cody with a low blow. Cody was looking to gain a measure of revenge this week, but it wouldn’t be easy with Taven’s Kingdom teammates present at ringside.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Marseglia and O’Ryan repeatedly took liberties on Cody while the referee was distracted. Eventually, the referee saw what was going on and ordered Marseglia and O’Ryan to the back. As that was happening, Taven grabbed his walking stick and prepared to use it as a weapon, but Cody stopped him with a low blow -- a receipt for what happened two weeks ago. Cody immediately caught Taven in a small package for the win.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>As Cody celebrated his victory by putting the “ring of honor” back on his finger, Marseglia and O’Ryan jumped into the ring and attacked him. Marseglia smashed a chair on Cody’s right hand. Taven followed with a low blow and then hit Climax. Taven removed the ring from Cody’s hand, placed it on his own finger and forced the nearly unconscious Cody to kiss the ring.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>THEY SAID IT&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>“Belly up to the bar, Ring of Honor, because the two largest drinks in the tag team division start knocking heads together.”</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>-- Beer City Bruiser on he and Brian Milonas making their debut as a tag team next week</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>“I earned my name Punishment on the streets by breaking bones and cracking skulls. … Ring of Honor has given me a platform to showcase my violence to the world.”</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>-- Punishment Martinez</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>“As the victories piled up, I &nbsp;had to ask myself if there truly is a Kingdom conspiracy, because this is a man I feel should be contending for that Ring of Honor World Championship.”</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>-- ROH commentator Ian Riccaboni on Matt Taven</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>NEXT WEEK</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>-- ROH World Championship: Dalton Castle (champion) vs. Punishment Martinez</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>-- Women of Honor Tournament First-Round Match: Mandy Leon vs. Madison Rayne</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>-- Coast 2 Coast vs. Beer City Bruiser and Brian Milonas</div> Wed, 07 Feb 2018 13:54:50 +0000 Chris Hall 579281 at
